Thank you to everyone who made it along to the Kinsale Rugby Annual General Meeting last Thursday at Snugmore. ππ
It was a great to see old members and new mingling, with players, coaches, committee members, trustees, life members and allicadoos all in attendance. π€©π€©
Chairman Des Walsh thanked the outgoing executive committee and all other committees for their hard work over the year to develop our club, and creating a platform for a great community of rugby. President Paul Kingston thanked the coaches, parents, players and supporters for their commitment, and gave particular mention to the volunteers who make Saturday Morning Sharks a fun and friendly feature of our weekly calendar all season so that mini players and parents can gather each week at our clubhouse. Lorriane Sullivan and her Sevens committee received special praise too for raising the bar again in creating an incredibly fun and vital fundraising weekend for the club.
Director of Rugby Denis Collins spoke about what an unprecedented year it was for the club on the rugby field. Our minis sections and girls rugby is growing, our youths won silverware across the ages, and our senior mens teams have never been as healthy and competitive. Thank you to the many that make this possible.
However, as Treasurer Allen Murphy outlined in his report, a 30% increase in the cost of running and operating the club due to inflation means that the club needs to be prudent going forward and fundraise to continue to thrive.
Back on the rugby field, Denis Collins announced that for the first time in the clubs history the club captaincy will be shared. Dylan Lacey and Timmy Lynch were announced as 2024/2025 club joint captains to a great ovation. This is wonderful recognition to two players who have served our club very well on and off pitch. Huge thanks also to outgoing club captain Mark OβConnell who has led our club brilliantly. ππ
Club founding member Jim Good concluded the meeting by praising the great spirit and camaraderie that exists across our club. From development committees, to Saturday Morning Sharks, girls and boys development, tournaments and matches for youths and seniors, Jim remarked that the morale and cohesiveness in the club has rarely been as good. ππ
Finally, the clubβs executive committee was re-elected to carry on their work developing Kinsale Rugby. Congratulations to President Paul Kingston and Chairman Des Walsh who will continue in their roles.
Roll on the start of the new season!
